A diaspora-led fund for grassroots climate resilience
Who we are
The Global Majority Resilience Fund (GMRF) is a diaspora-led fund that gives flexible, trust-based grants to grassroots climate resilience organizations across the Global South.
The Global Majority is the roughly 85% of the world's population who live across the Global South, or belong to diaspora and Indigenous communities in the Global North. They are the first to feel extreme heat, drought and coastal hazards. They also hold generations of knowledge about living with a changing environment. Yet most climate philanthropy still funds mitigation, and the small share that goes to adaptation rarely reaches the grassroots.
GMRF exists to close that gap. Our team brings lived experience of climate vulnerability and trusted networks across the Global South, so we can reach organizations that larger funders cannot. We back what they build, help them access larger funding pools, and share the evidence of what works.
Why GMRF
- Proximity
Diaspora networks and lived experience give us trusted relationships with grassroots organizations that larger funders lack.
- Proven experience
Our founders have designed and run a USD 50 million multi-donor pooled fund for climate resilience and an open grant call that drew over 2,000 applications from nearly 80 countries.
- Speed and efficiency
We aim to disburse in under a month, keep fees under 12%, and send over 80% of funding directly to local grantees and implementing partners.
- Catalytic capital
We provide early, risk-tolerant capital for commercially promising solutions, backed by rigorous impact reporting that gives private and blended investors the evidence to follow.
- Transparency
Funders can see documentation and status for every grant in our pipeline.
GMRF is fiscally sponsored in the United States by Myriad USA, a 501(c)(3) public charity, which conducts full due diligence and compliance checks on every grant.
A team from the communities it serves
Advisory Board
Our Advisory Board brings together technical experts and funder representatives. Advisors guide our strategy and review applications received through our open calls. Final grant decisions rest with the GMRF team.
